Lack of sufficient parking spaces proved to be a key issue for SSE. With three times more employees than parking spaces available, parking was allocated to employees on a first come first served basis, causing several issues:
- any employees arriving after 8.30 in the morning would likely fail to get a parking space for their car
- those who could not get parking on-site would park their cars in nearby hotel car parks or housing estates
- employees used to drive around the site for 20 mins on average looking for an empty parking spot, becoming a significant source of frustration for them
- management had no visibility on who used the parking and what times they gained entry or exited
Ronspot’s credit system has allowed SSE to ensure guaranteed parking spaces to its employees every day fairly and transparently. The credits are evenly distributed monthly to the employees and can be ‘spent’ to book any available parking spot up to 90 days in advance.
Additionally, an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system with barriers is also fully integrated to Ronspot using RESTful APIs to streamline parking management. The system uses optical character recognition (OCR) on images taken by the security cameras, lifting the barriers for cars that have a spot booked on Ronspot and allowing the company to view in real-time who has parked and when they entered and exited the car park.
